How much heat does a living room need?
A living room is where you sit still for longest, so it is worth sizing its radiators carefully. Our BTU calculator uses a higher allowance for living rooms than for kitchens or hallways. Enter the room's measurements and it gives a rough estimate in BTU per hour. Rooms with large windows, high ceilings or outside walls on several sides can need more than the estimate, and a large or open-plan room may need two or more radiators to reach it.
Comparing heat output
Where a product page lists a heat output, compare it with your estimate. Outputs are only directly comparable when both products state the same ΔT, so check this before choosing between two models.
Choosing a style
Designer radiators
Flat panel, tubular and vertical designs, including ranges such as Zehnder Kleo, Zehnder Arteplano and Reina Neva. A vertical radiator can use a tall, narrow wall when furniture fills the space under the window.
Column radiators
Multi-column radiators have a traditional look, in horizontal and vertical forms. See all column radiators.
Panel radiators
Single, double and triple panel radiators, such as Myson Premier and the CenterRad Deco and Plan ranges, are a practical choice under a window. A double or triple panel gives more heat output than a single panel of the same height and width, which helps where wall space is limited.
Finishes
Finishes vary by range. White, anthracite, black, chrome and brass are among those named in this collection; the product page shows the options for each model.
