Steel or cast iron
Cast iron column radiators
Most of the column radiators we list are cast iron: 4,923 of 5,624 published products. They are chiefly the Wallace and Squires Ionic, Clasico and Fitzrovia ranges, alongside Stelrad's cast iron range. Cast iron radiators are heavy, so follow the manufacturer's fixing instructions and ask a qualified installer to check the wall or floor.
Steel column radiators
Steel ranges include Zehnder Charleston, Myson Column, Stelrad Vita and CenterRad Column.
Electric column radiators
Electric column models are also listed. They are also in the Electric Radiators collection; see the manufacturer's instructions for how each one is connected.
How many columns?
Column radiators are listed in 2, 3, 4 and 6 column builds, and the 4 column build is the most common in this collection. The product page gives the size of each radiator, so check the depth against the space in front of the wall as well as the height and width.
Height and width
Column radiators are listed in horizontal and vertical formats. Searches such as "column radiators 450mm high" and "2000mm wide" are common, so use the height and width filters to find an exact fit.
Output
Get an estimate of the heat the room needs from our BTU calculator, which gives a figure in BTU. Each product page shows its rated output, and the test condition (ΔT) where it is stated. Outputs are only directly comparable when both products state the same ΔT. Brands do not all quote outputs at the same ΔT, which matters when you weigh cast iron against steel from a different maker.
Finishes
White is the most common finish, but many cast iron radiators are listed in painted colours such as traffic white, anthracite grey, grey aluminium, antique gold and bronze. Steel ranges add colours such as pure white and gun metal.
