Kitchen Radiators

Heating for kitchens, where wall space is often short. Choose compact panel radiators, slim vertical radiators for a narrow wall between units, or plinth heaters that fit in the kickspace under kitchen cabinets. Estimate the heat output you need, then compare sizes.

About Kitchen Radiators

Finding the wall space

Cabinets, appliances and doors leave little free wall in most kitchens. Three kinds of product help:

  • Compact panel radiators such as Stelrad Compact, Stelrad Softline, Myson Select Compact and CenterRad Compact, in a wide choice of heights and widths.
  • Slim vertical radiators, 450mm wide or less, for a narrow wall beside a door or the end of a run of units.
  • Plinth heaters, such as the Smith's Space Saver range, which sit in the kickspace under base units. Hydronic models connect to central heating and electric models need a power supply; check the product page for which is which.

How much heat does a kitchen need?

Our BTU calculator uses a lower allowance for kitchens than for living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. The estimate is a rough guide: a kitchen-diner, a room with an outside wall on two sides or a large glazed door can need more. Where a product page lists a heat output, compare it with your estimate. Outputs are only directly comparable when both products state the same ΔT.

Planning around units and appliances

Check where cabinets, the cooker and the fridge will sit before you choose a size, and leave room for the valves at each end of a radiator. A plinth heater has to fit the depth and height of the kickspace under the unit; the product page gives the details for each model.

Styles and finishes

Finishes vary by range. Designer ranges such as Zehnder Excelsior, Zehnder Kleo and Reina Neva include anthracite and other colours on some models; the product page shows the options for each model.
