Zehnder Charleston 2 Column Vertical Designer Radiator

Zehnder Charleston is a steel column radiator made in the Black Forest, Germany, built from separate sections of vertical tubes. This listing is the 2 column version: each section is 2 tubes deep, and Zehnder gives the depth as 62 mm.

Key features

• All-steel construction: vertical tubes of 25 mm diameter, laser welded.
• Sectional design: each section is 46 mm wide; the overall width is the number of sections times 46 mm, plus 26 mm.
• Connections: 1/2 inch BSP tappings at the bottom, at opposite ends, as standard.
• Paint system: a primer coat and an epoxy powder coat finish.
• Technoline finish: a clear finish that shows the manufacturing marks, so each radiator looks slightly different. Zehnder says Technoline is not suitable for bathrooms.

What's included and what you'll need

• Zehnder supplies a factory-fitted 1/2 inch air vent, four brackets, four clamp assemblies and two security clips. Wall plugs and screws are not supplied.
• Valves are not supplied: Zehnder lists suitable valves among the materials you need. You can choose valves from our radiator accessories.

Choosing the right size

How much heat a room needs depends on its size, insulation, windows and how warm you like it. Use our BTU calculator to estimate what the room needs, then choose a size from the options on this page. If you are comparing radiators from different ranges or brands, compare their outputs at the same ΔT (the difference between the average water temperature and the room temperature). Our guide to radiator terms explains what ΔT and BTU mean, and our help choosing a radiator page has more guidance.

Heating systems

Charleston is for central heating. Zehnder states it is not suitable for use on a domestic hot water system.

Care

Zehnder recommends its lambswool cleaning brush, and suggests keeping the packaging to protect the radiator while you decorate.
